BEST PLACES TO VISIT IN SARANDA

WALK TO THE BOULEVARD

The boulevard is packed with people throughout the summer months, especially when cruise ships begin to dock in Saranda.

Take some time to stroll down the boulevard, day or night, and take in the view. During the summer, there are marketplaces where you may pick up some souvenirs and everything else you will wish for.

VISIT LËKURËSI CASTLE

Lekursi Castle is located at the top of a hill overlooking Saranda.

Although this Saranda castle is now a restaurant, the views above Saranda and even into the neighboring farmland are breathtaking and well worth the trip.

It’s one of the top Saranda sites to see because of the outstanding vista! Of course, it’s one of Saranda’s best sunset sites and historical places.

BUTRINT (UNESCO SITE)

Butrint is a UNESCO World Heritage Site rich of ancient ruins located near Ksamil. It was inhabited before the Greeks arrived, and afterwards the Romans took possession.

It takes around 2 or 3 hours to explore and costs 700 Lek to enter.

VISIT BLUE EYE (SYRI I KALTËR)

The Blue Eye is a natural phenomena and one of the most unusual sights in the area. No Saranda vacation is complete without a visit here.

Divers have attempted to determine the depth of the spring but have only gone down 50 meters and are still unable to locate the source or how far down the spring runs.

DISCOVER ANCIENT SARANDA

Believe it or not, there are historic ruins of a synagogue going back to the 5th century right in the center.

These structures were developed into a basilica in the sixth century, but were subsequently destroyed by an earthquake.

These ruins were found only in 1984.

SPIRANCA DIVING CENTER

Saranda and the surrounding area have a number of dive sites to choose from, including shipwrecks, reefs, and caves. Some popular dive sites include the Ksamil Islands, and the Blue Eye, a stunning natural spring with crystal clear water.

HOW TO GET TO KSAMIL

If you don’t have a car, taking the bus from Sarande to Ksamil is the most convenient option (100lek).

The bus from Saranda can be boarded at the stops . The bus will also pick you up from a variety of different locations across the city.

Just keep an eye out for bus stop signs and seats. You can typically just hold out your hand and the bus drivers will come and pick you up even if you aren’t at the designated stop; they are really kind here in Albania.

The bus runs every half-hour from 6.30 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. It operates seven days a week.
